The Department of General Services is seeking an experienced executive to lead its Division of Engineering & Buildings (DEB). This is the Commonwealth’s Building Code Official and the senior facilities’ management position for the department. Guided by the Code of Virginia and through a staff of over 200 employees in two bureaus, the successful applicant will administer the statewide capital outlay program and facilities management for the historic seat of government. The position requires extensive executive level managerial experience; comprehensive experience in construction and project management; managing maintenance and operation of large commercial and/or government campuses; managing personnel with a broad range of technical backgrounds and experience; and budget development and fiscal management. The division is funded by rent and fees; therefore, significant business acumen is necessary. Comprehensive knowledge of architecture and engineering principles; construction methods; building codes; facility maintenance practices; state government organizational structure and legislative processes is required. Selected applicant must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (AIA) with a degree from an accredited college or university in engineering discipline or architecture. A Master’s degree in Business or Public Administration is preferred. Fingerprint-based criminal background check and Statement of Economic Interest is required. The anticipated salary range for the position is $120,000 to $140,000.
