Children from Florida, South Carolina, Virginia and Kuwait were the first place winners in the 8th annual American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) kids’ Safety-on-the-Job poster contest for best illustrating “being safe on the job.” ASSE received 850+ posters from children aged 5-14 from 34 U.S. states and six countries for the contest aimed at teaching children what ASSE members – their parents, relatives and friends – do every day to prevent injury and illness at work.
The contest is open to ASSE members’ children, friends, co-workers’ children and/or organizations and schools they sponsor. The first place posters are featured on the 2010 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH, May 2nd-8th) Week poster sent to thousands of businesses worldwide. The contest winners, contestants and families will also be recognized during ASSE NAOSH Week kick-off events May 2nd and 3rd in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Capitol, the Smithsonian and the U.S. Department of Labor. First place winners receive a $1,000 savings bond.
Winners from Virginia included First Place in the 9-10 age group — Taylin Crosen, of Winchester, Virginia, and Third Place in the 9-10 age group — Abigail C. Helser, from Onancock, Virginia.
