ASCE Announces Publication of New Snow Loads Guide
September 8, 2017

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), America’s oldest national engineering society representing more than 145,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide, has announced the publication and availability of the 2017 edition of Snow Loads: Guide to the Snow Load Provisions of ASCE 7-16. This new edition supplies detailed, authoritative explanations of the snow load provisions contained in Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures, Standard ASCE/SEI 7-16. With clear, concise language, author Michael O‚ÄôRourke, Ph.D., P.E., illustrates the key concepts for applying the provisions to the design of new and existing structures that could collect falling or drifting snow.

Driven by recent changes to the ASCE 7 snow load provisions, this guide now covers new ground snow load tables for seven states; current research on probability of snow falling off roofs; snow density changes; snow loads on air-supported structures and calculation of snow loads on process piping.

To purchase a copy of the new edition online, visit the ASCE Bookstore.
