ASCE Seeks Comments On Three Reaffirmed Standards
June 17, 2016

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will conduct a public comment period on the three reaffirmed standards:

1. ASCE/EWRI Standard 50-2008 STANDARD GUIDELINE FOR FITTING SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY USING PROBABILITY DENSITY FUNCTIONS
2. ASCE/EWRI Standard 51-2008 STANDARD GUIDELINE FOR CALCULATING THE EFFECTIVE SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY
3. ASCE/EWRI Standard 54-10 STANDARD GUIDELINE FOR THE 6 GEOSTATISTICAL ESTIMATION AND BLOCK-7 AVERAGING OF HOMOGENEOUS AND ISOTROPIC 8 SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY
The public comment period will be held from June 16, 2016 to July 31, 2016.

These standard guidelines describe procedures to (i) characterize the saturated hydraulic conductivity of soils (Ksat) using probabilistic models that capture its inherent variability in actual settings (50-2008), (ii) calculate the effective Ksat to be employed in predictive groundwater modeling (51-2008), and (iii) interpolate Ksat at locations where measurements are not available considering measurements at nearby locations within the same soil employing the correlation features of Ksat by means of geostatistics (54-2010).

Accessing the Public Comment System will require using or creating an ASCE web user account. For additional questions contact James Neckel, ASCE’s Codes and Standards Coordinator, at jneckel@asce.org.
