ASHRAE Issues Call for Comments - Multiple Standards and Addenda
March 30, 2016

ASHRAE has issued an invitation for public comments on the following standards and addenda:

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 160-2009, Criteria for Moisture-Control Design Analysis in Buildings

• Addendum d: Updates the references in Section 8.
• Addendum e: Brings the standard more in-line with the current state of knowledge about mold growth.

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34-2013, Designation and Safety Classification of Refrigerants

• Addendum ab: Adds the single component refrigerant 1130 (E).
• Addendum ac: Adds the azeoptropic blend R-514A.
• Addendum ad: Adds the azeotropic refrigerant blend R515A.
• Addendum ae: Adds the zeotropic refrigerant blend R447B in Table 4-2 and Table D-2.
• Addendum af: Adds the zeotropic refrigerant blend R452B.
• Addendum ag: Adds the zeotropic refrigerant blend R456A.
• Addendum ah: Adds the zeotropic refrigerant blend R457A.
• Addendum ai: Adds the zeotropic refrigerant blend R452C.
• Addendum aj: Adds the zeotropic refrigerant blend R458A.

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 15-2013, Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems

• Addendum g: Clarifies the metric unit gage pressure when designing for a vacuum. Gives new requirements for the use of pressure-limiting devices. Clarifies that the ASME Section VIII Pressure Vessel Design is not required for the water side of heat exchangers, providing certain other design requirements are met. Stipulates that other types of compression devices not specifically listing in the section may be used for the connection of copper tube provided they are agency listed for the refrigeration use.
• Addendum f: Adds additional data for Piping Nominal Diameter NPS.DN and Tubing Diameter O.D. (based on Type L Copper) to Table D-2.

ASHRAE Guideline 34P, Energy Guideline for Historic Buildings: Provides advice to those who plan to undertake energy efficiency and energy conservation improvement projects and programs involving historic structures on the practices, processes, and workflows that should be followed.

• First public review of BSR/ASHRAE Addendum g to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55-2013, Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy: Adds a requirement to calculate the change to thermal comfort resulting from direct solar radiation impacting occupants. Adds a calculation procedure that adjusts mean radiant temperature due to direct solar radiation so that the comfort zone calculation remains unchanged.
