February 25, 2008

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., will participate in a panel discussion titled Executive Forum Panel Presentation on the key to corporate safety communications with Maureen Steinwall, president of Steinwall Industries, and Thomas Krause, chairman of BST, at the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) The Business of Safety – A Matter of Success symposium March 13-14 in Baltimore, Maryland.

The symposium will feature sessions on how integrating safety into the construction of Baltimore’s Harbor East contributed to its success; aligning safety with industry business strategy; designing out workplace hazards; successfully managing vendors; contract writing, and case study roundtables discussing best practices and real-world experiences.

The symposium will also feature an executive forum panel which will focus on how safety professionals can communicate effectively and achieve ongoing support from senior leadership in a corporation. Questions will also be taken from the audience for the 1-2 p.m. panel discussion to be held March 13.

In addition, business strategist Chuck Martin will deliver the keynote address presentation Thursday morning on leveraging safety leadership and lead attendees through a self-assessment process to evaluate one’s business acumen.

The symposium also features 20 concurrent sessions on business tactics, negotiation skills, risk assessment, cost-benefit analysis, influential leadership and other business strategies that strengthen occupational safety, health and environmental professionals’ efforts to illustrate how safety is good business.
