Thanks to a growing group of generous donors, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation is celebrating a record year by awarding more than $303,000 in scholarships and grants to 116 students and society members. The Foundation announces its annual recipients every April in support of the occupational safety and health (OSH) profession nationwide.
Specifically, $281,750 in scholarships was awarded to 90 students pursuing OSH degrees at 48 universities throughout the country. Another $21,915 in professional education grants was awarded to 26 ASSE members looking to further their safety credentials in 20 society chapters.
“The Foundation thanks the ASSE community for its generous display of support,” said Foundation Chair Darryl C. Hill, Ph.D., CSP. “Thanks to our donors, we were able to increase scholarship and grant funding by 10 percent in 2017. We are proud to be able to help so many pursue their dreams of higher education in occupational safety and health.”
This year’s distribution tops the Foundation’s previous record of $275,000 in scholarships and grants from 2016. A complete list of the 2017 recipients can be found on the Foundation’s web page.
“We do this because safety matters,” Hill said. “We want to play a key role in developing tomorrow’s occupational safety leaders while supporting research that expands the knowledge of the safety community. It’s only because of the generosity of our partners that we can provide such valuable resources.”
