City of Virginia Beach To Spend $50,000 On Wind Energy Study
February 7, 2011

According to Mayor Will Sessoms, the City of Virginia Beach, Va. has agreed to pay for a state study to investigate the feasibility of using an existing lighthouse structure, located some 13 miles outside the city, for wind energy research. The City Council has approved the expenditure of $50,000 following a request from Governor Bob McDonnell to fund the study as there are no state monies available. The study is to determine if the Chesapeake Light Tower could support a 245-foot tower which would gather data for wind energy research.
