Clean the Bay Day Resounding Success
June 9, 2017

Approximately 6,000 volunteers from across the state came together on June 3rd to improve Virginia’s waterways as part of the 29th Annual Clean the Bay Day sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF). The annual event is dedicated to cleaning up streams and shorelines across Virginia.

The event represented a fantastic way to kick off Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week, which individuals and organizations are celebrating across the watershed.

A mix of 41 elected officials (federal, state, and local), government appointees, and other staff and aides, sponsors, and press attended to commend the volunteer effort that resulted in approximately 440 miles of streams and shoreline being cleaned, removing about 100,000 pounds of harmful debris.

According to Tanner Council, CBF Hampton Roads Grassroots Manager, “It is the commitment of each individual volunteer that makes this event such a huge success year after year.”
