Climate Legislation Misreading the Historical Record
July 29, 2009

A new report from the independent American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) will show that studies forecasting economic harms if the U.S. moves to curb greenhouse gas emissions are flawed because they are not taking into account the actual U.S. track record to date on energy-efficiency advances and thus significantly understating the potential future benefits.

Building on the available economic data and the larger historical record, the ACEEE has developed a new diagnostic tool to evaluate the recent assessments of climate change legislation now before the U.S. Congress. Based on the available record and the economic evidence to date, ACEEE will report preliminary findings that highlight energy efficiency as a substantially larger and more cost-effective resource than most economic policy models now acknowledge.

ACEEE will release its new report Thursday July 30th, 2009. A streaming audio recording of the news event will be available on the Web as of 6 p.m. EDT / 3 p.m. PDT that day at the ACEEE Website.
