2008 COVES Conference

The 2008 Commonwealth of Virginia Energy and Sustainability Conference (COVES) will focus on “Meeting the Climate Change Challenge.” The Conference takes place September 17-19, 2008 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia.

The Climate Change Challenge provides opportunities for policy solutions, technological innovation, and economic development. The conference will showcase the actions that state and local governments, institutions, and businesses in Virginia and across the country are taking to meet the most pressing environmental issue of this century.

Nationally recognized speakers, including Christopher Flavin, President, Worldwatch Institute; Kenneth Ostrowski, Director, McKinsey and Company; and Don Juhasz, P.E.,CEM, Chief, Energy and Utility Programs, U.S. Army, will address plenary audiences. State leaders, including Governor Tim Kaine (invited); State Senator Frank Wagner; and Stephen Walz, Senior Energy Policy Advisor for the Governor, will provide attendees with updates on the state’s actions to address energy policy and Climate Change. Regional representatives from business, institutions, and government, will highlight the opportunities to reduce energy use and carbon emissions while keeping the economy and our communities strong.

The Conference will also feature an exhibit hall with innovative products, alternative fuel vehicles, state agency programs and a Green Building poster display. Companies can showcase their support for sustainable approaches to energy and Climate Change as a conference sponsor or exhibitor.

The conference is being organized this year by the Virginia Sustainable Future Forum, led by Co-Chairs, Annette Osso, President, Virginia Sustainable Building Network and Harry Gregori, Vice President, Environmental Solutions Inc. COVES 2008 is supported by public and private sponsors including the Virginia Departments of Mines, Minerals and Energy, Agriculture and Community Services, and Conservation and Recreation; Dominion, DPR Construction Inc., Pepco Energy Services, Trane, and U.S. Green Building Council Chapters.
