Concrete Pavement Joint Design & Construction Workshop Scheduled
August 12, 2015

The American Concrete and Pavement Association (ACPA) will present a two-day national workshop on concrete pavement joint design and construction, as well as the closely related subjects of load transfer, tie bar systems, and dowel alignment.

Our workshop program will feature industry best practices, presented by subject matter experts with practical experience in the topic areas. This comprehensive course will include classroom-style discussions, hands-on training exercises, technology demonstrations, valuable troubleshooting information, and more!

When and Where?
The workshop will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27 and 28, at ACPA’s Rosemont, Ill. headquarters office. The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CST) the first day, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CST) the second day.

Who Should Attend?
The workshop is intended for design consultants, agencies, contractor personnel, and others with an interest in concrete pavement joint design, construction, and dowel alignment.

Learning Objectives
This workshop will help participants gain a more thorough understanding of…
· The importance of proper concrete pavement joint design & construction.
· Joint layout and design considerations.
· Types of joints used in various concrete pavements
· Joint mechanics
· Construction factors
· Load transfer & joint ties
· Dowel alignment, including the latest update on ACPA’s dowel alignment guide specification.

About the Workshop
The first day of the workshop will focus on practical aspects of joint design, as well as a hands-on joint layout exercise and group discussion.

The second day of the workshop will cover joint construction and quality topics, and will feature a demonstration of dowel alignment measurement equipment, a discussion of field alignment measurement examples, and a hands-on exercise in evaluating dowel alignment data. The workshop will wrap up with a session on what can go wrong in joint design and construction … and how to fix it, which we anticipate will be a great discussion on real-world challenges and solutions.
