Dewberry Selected To Provide Underground Utility Analysis and Repairs
July 26, 2018

The University of Mary Washington (UMW) has selected Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, to perform an analysis of existing underground utility systems across the 171-acre campus. Additionally, the firm will offer prioritized recommendations for improvements and designs based on a $6.25-million construction budget.

As part of the analysis, the firm will investigate the steam, sanitary sewer, and waterline systems currently serving the entire campus. Designs are expected to be complete in early 2019.

Dewberry Project Manager Devin Keeler, P.E., says, “Our team is ready to investigate, prioritize strategies, and deliver solutions that will maximize UMW’s available construction funding and significantly decrease its exposure to unexpected utility breaks and service interruptions.”

Dewberry recently completed a major infrastructure upgrade at the University of Virginia (UVA), creating a three-mile underground ductbank that enabled the university to relocate 35 kV of overhead electrical service below ground between three substations. The project has enhanced electrical reliability and minimized power interruptions that impact academic, research, and medical programs on the UVA grounds.
