DOE Publishes Final Rule on Energy Conversion Factor
January 20, 2017

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has published the final rule on conversion factors for residential water heaters and residential-duty commercial water heaters. This rule will be used to convert current efficiency ratings for these water heaters to the appropriate metrics determined by the Uniform Efficiency Descriptor (UED) test procedure in the Federal Register on December 29, 2016. The conversion factors in this final rule may be used to provide Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) and first hour or maximum gallon-per-minute ratings, as applicable, for models of residential water heaters and residential-duty commercial water heaters that were certified by DOE prior to July 13, 2015. The effective date of this rule was December 29, 2016, and ratings determined by use of the conversion factors may be used until December 29, 2017.
