The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the finalization of the 2019 recognition criteria for Most Efficient categories in its ENERGY STAR program. The criteria are effective January 1, 2019, and final recognition criteria documents for the fourteen eligible product categories, HVAC narrative guide, a memorandum summarizing the requirements, and a stakeholder comment summary with EPA’s response are available on the EPA website.
In response to comments from stakeholders, EPA withdrew its proposal to require variable capacity (i.e., at least three stages) for ducted and ductless air conditioners and heat pumps in 2019. This leaves the 2019 Most Efficient criteria for all HVAC product categories unchanged from 2018.
