EPA Revises Specification for Commercial Water Heaters
January 9, 2018

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued the final Version 2.0 specifications for commercial water heaters along with a cover letter explaining the implementation of the changes.

This final Version 2.0 adds a qualification criterion of COPh ? 3.0 for commercial heat pump water heaters; final Version 2.0 removes Energy Factor requirements and the reference to the Energy Factor test method, and adds optional reporting requirements for products capable of displaying system status and messaging to users. The effective date of this final Version 2.0 specification is October 1, 2018. After that date, only products certified to the Version 2.0 specification will be listed in the Energy Star program. However, manufacturers may elect to have their eligible products certified to the Version 2.0 requirements now.
