Strong building codes reduce the impact of disasters on the world, and save lives and protect property while lessening the impact of disasters worldwide. To assist the international community to research, understand and utilize building codes, the International Code Council, United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), and the Regional Disaster Information Center for Latin America and the Caribbean developed Tools for Risk Management, a virtual library of technical documents and information. Documents include white papers, research and videos on a variety of topics including seismic engineering, hurricane resistant construction, and hazard assessment and mitigation. Tool s for Risk Management is free and available in English and Spanish.
“The more people understand how building codes can be used to reduce the effects of disasters, the safer our world can become,” said International Code Council CEO Rick Weiland. “Tools for Risk Management is a valuable resource for public and private groups pursuing disaster risk management and safer construction.”
