Hearings Set For State Roadway Projects

The state Transportation Board has announced that it plans to hold nine public meetings during October and November to allow the publice to comment on potential projects to be included in the state’s 2009-2014 transportation program. Representatives from the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation will be in attendance to answer questions and provide information. According to state officials, these projects would include interstate highway, primary road, rail, bicycle, pedestrian and public transportation initiatives.

A draft of the new six-year improvement program is expected to be available during early 2008, but the state will hold public hearings on it before adopting the program.

Each meeting will have a briefing for public officials beginning at 5 p.m., followed by an open house at 6 p.m., with the public hearing scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The announced meeting schedule includes:
Chesapeake: Chesapeake Conference Center, 900 Greenbrier Circle, October 9th;
Verona: Augusta Government Center, 4801 Lee Highway, October 15th;
Richmond: Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. Third St., October 16th;
Cedar Bluff: Southwest Virginia Community College, 724 Community College Road, October 23rd;
Salem: Salem Civic Center, 1001 Boulevard, October 24th;
Lynchburg: The Kirkley Hotel, 2900 Candler’s Mountain Road, October 29th;
Stafford: Stafford County Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, October 30th;
Culpeper: VDOT District Office, 1601 Orange Road, November 1st;
Fairfax: Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, November 13th.
