Leaders of the Profession to Keynote
September 12, 2008

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) will host its Annual Professional Development Conference and Exposition: The Annual Meeting from October 12-17, 2008, at the Renaissance Suites Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This is the premier educational event for fire protection professionals and will include two days of “cutting-edge” presentations that advance the science and technology that keeps people and property safe from fire.

Keynote speakers for this conference will include:

• Kazunori Harada, Kyoto University, Japan: Development and spread of Japanese fire safety engineering: Past, present and future.
• Barbara Lane, Arup, United Kingdom: Structures and fire: The role of the practising fire professional.
• David A. Lucht, Retired, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA: Fixing the shortage in FPE graduates.
• James A. Milke, University of Maryland, USA: Smoke Management: State of the art and areas of improvement.
• Wayne D. Moore, Hughes Associates,Inc., USA: Mass notification systems, design challenges for the FPE.
• Jon Nelson, Tetra Tech, USA: Engineering licensure today and tomorrow.

Included in this event will be an Engineering Technology Exposition that will be held on October 14th, 2008. Over 40 of the leading fire protection organizations will be exhibiting their products and services. This year’s exposition will also include a series of exhibitor presentations that will feature state-of-the-art advancements in fire protection technology. The event will also include four days of seminars in a wide range of fire protection engineering topics.
