Manual 135 Offers Guidance To Monitor Dam Performance
July 11, 2018

Dam performance monitoring is a balance of visual surveillance and instrumental measurements that when combined accurately show how well a dam is performing. Visual surveillance is augmented by measuring geotechnical, structural, hydraulic and geohydraulic indicators. The American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) new manual of practice, Monitoring Dam Performance: Instrumentation and Measurement, presents these fundamentals, along with the current state-of-practice of instrumented measurements.

Manual of Practice 135 examines the following topic areas: recognizing vulnerabilities; identifying performance indicators; understanding means and methods of performance measurement indicators; planning and implementing a monitoring program; managing data; and making action-based decisions when required.

This publication is a valuable resource for dam owners, engineers and regulators, as well as the entire global dam community.
