July 5, 2010

According to information made available from Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic awarded a $33.6 million firm-fixed price contract as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) June 18th to Blueridge General, Inc. of Norfolk, Va.

The project is for construction to replace the roof and repair the exterior of Medical Administrative Building 3 at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Va. The scope of the project provides for repairs to the exterior masonry walls, precast pilasters, doors, 16th floor louvers, roofs, cooling tower supports, concrete encased steel spandrel beams and improvements to the main entrance of Building 3, which served as the primary hospital from 1959 to 1999.

Work will be performed in Portsmouth, Va., and is expected to be completed by July 2013. Projects like these will provide much-needed improvements to Navy and Marine Corps installations. In addition to hospitals, work has been done for child development centers, barracks projects, family housing, community centers, gymnasiums and other facilities for Sailors, Marines and their families.

Under the ARRA, NAVFAC is responsible for executing $1.9 billion in funding for the Energy Conservation Investment Program, military construction; facilities, sustainment, restoration and modernization; and research, development, testing and evaluation projects.
