Naval Hospital To Receive Upgrades
October 6, 2010

According to information made available from Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic recently awarded a $57.2 million firm-fixed-price contract to W. M. Jordan of Newport News, Va. for the construction of a hospital and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) addition, and the renovation of portions of Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune (NHCL).

The project will expand the existing facility by an additional 109,000 square feet and will provide for construction of a new outpatient clinic, a new emergency department and will add MRI capability to the existing hospital.

The hospital, originally constructed in the 1980s, will also undergo changes to achieve a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating.

Work is scheduled to begin during the first quarter of fiscal year 2011 in Jacksonville, N.C., and is expected to be completed in 2015.
