Recognition For Energy Programs Achieved
September 24, 2010

According to information made available from Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), thirteen activities within Navy Region Mid-Atlantic are scheduled for recognition Oct. 6th for reaching Gold and Blue Levels of Achievement for the 2010 Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Energy and Water Management Awards for their efforts during fiscal year 2009.

In concert with and support of installation commanding officers, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic manages the region’s energy and water programs at the installation level. This year, the region achieved a 44 percent increase in the number of activities recognized as part of the SECNAV Awards program.

Naval Air Station Oceana, Va.; Naval Support Activity Norfolk, Va.; Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Va.; Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Va.; Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, N.H.; Naval Station Newport, R.I.; and Naval Surface Warfare Center Ship Systems Engineering Station Philadelphia, Pa. received Gold Level Achievement.

Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove, Pa.; Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport, R.I.; Navy Information Operations Command Sugar Grove, W.Va.; Naval Station Norfolk, Va.; Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, N.H.; and Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg, Pa. received Blue Level Achievement.

The DoN Energy Program evaluates various performance factors at each installation, including improvement in energy efficiency, number of energy projects executed during the fiscal year, amount of renewable energy generation, strength of energy awareness program, and the level of command support. The points accrued determine whether the installation attains a Platinum, Gold or Blue level of achievement.
