New Edition Of Key Handbook For Women In Engineering Released
March 1, 2019

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has published an update to the popular handbook, Becoming Leaders: A Practical Handbook for Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology. Building on the tenets from the first edition of time management skills, being a leader, work-life balance and more, this second edition delves into current topics including diversity and inclusion, the impact of social media in the workplace, and provides information on implicit bias, as well as other factors affecting leadership success. This handbook was authored by F. Mary Williams and Carolyn Emerson.

Arranged to follow a career-life progression, the chapters may be read in any order, but all sections support leadership development and offer feasible bulleted lists which are supported by current research in sociology, education and psychology.

Coupled with career success and leadership self-awareness encouragement, Becoming Leaders is a book on which all women—from those starting their career early in engineering, to experienced managers and faculty can rely for industry advice, information and inspiration.
