New Plant To Open In Danville
February 15, 2008

Economic development officials in Danville recently announced that a Polish manufacturer of mattresses and upholstered furniture, Com.40, plans to open a factory in Danville and hire over 800 workers. Com.40 plans to spend $36.3 million to refurbish a facility in Danville which was formerly used by the Universal Leaf tobacco company. The company hopes to have the new plant in production by the end of the year, according to Com.40 officials. Com.40 Ltd., based in Nowe Skalmierzyce, Poland, is a key supplier of home-furnishings giant IKEA, which recently opened a manufacturing plant in Pittsylvania County.

The city received $1.5 million in state money to help it bring Com.40 to Virginia. Additional financial incentive was provided by the state’s Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission which provided $900,000.
