New Standard 69 Addresses Current Practices For Managed Aquifer Recharge
May 20, 2020

Ongoing demand for water supplies and the need for water storage have led Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) to becoming an increasingly important component for both storage and supply in regional water planning and management. The American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) new standard, Standard Guidelines for Managed Aquifer Recharge, ASCE/EWRI 69-19, provides a thorough and up-to-date description of MAR projects.

This standard provides details on planning, design, construction, operation, monitoring, and closure of MAR projects, along with background information on groundwater and MAR concepts. It also describes the economic, environmental, and legal considerations, such as water rights, laws, and regulations, as well as field investigation and testing procedures that may apply.

Water resources planners and stakeholders will find this a useful resource during the initial evaluation and planning phases, as well as engineers, hydrologists, and other professionals working on standardizing MAR practices from conceptualization to operation.
