Orb Puzzle Wins Design Competition
January 26, 2007

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) announced recently that Joel Roemhild, Project Coordinator for Stratasys won the RAPID 2007 Challenge Design Competition for his design of
an orb puzzle. This competition is intended to challenge any individual—a student, engineer, product designer or any professional—to create and design a part or product. Roemhild’s puzzle will be used as the model for the 2007 RAPID Challenge.

The RAPID Challenge is an interactive activity that encourages event attendees to visit exhibitors and explore the many technologies and materials available. Attendees are “challenged” to collect and assemble nine pieces that make up the puzzle model. Exhibitors are challenged to demonstrate their accuracy, material qualities, and finishes by producing a piece of the puzzle
so that it fits properly in the final assembly.

All attendees who complete a puzzle will be entered in a drawing for their own copy of the 2007 Wohlers Report, which is valued at $495. This leading industry resource provides an in-depth worldwide progress report on the rapid prototyping, tooling, and manufacturing state of the industry.

Dedicated to fostering business relationships between users and technology providers, the Challenge Design program allows users, rapid technologies and additive manufacturing (RTAM) as well as & CAD/CAM companies, and material providers to work with each other to manufacture the components of a given rapid manufacturing challenge “model.”
