Paper Company Growing In Shenandoah
March 25, 2010

Gov. Bob McDonnell’s office has announced that Mercury Paper Inc., a tissue and paper towels manufacturer, will expand its existing plant in Shenandoah County. The $21.2 million expansion will also accommodate the relocation of the firm’s North American headquarters. The project is expected to create approximately 150 jobs in the area. The company’s current North American headquarters is in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.

Mercury Paper’s parent company, Sinar Mas Group, is a conglomerate headquartered in Shanghai, China, with businesses in paper products, real estate development, agribusiness and financial services. According to state officials, the project represents Virginia’s largest-ever investment by a Chinese-owned manufacturer.
