School of Engineering Receives $2 Million gift
May 18, 2007

The School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, located in Richmond, Va., recently received a $2 million gift from semiconductor manufacturer Qimonda.

According to VCU President Eugene P. Trani, the gift from Qimonda is the largest corporate donation to the engineering school in its 11-year history.

A major employer in the Richmond area, Qimonda has more than 50 VCU graduates in engineering positions at its manufacturing facility. The firm has partnered with VCU to develop the university’s microelectronics curriculum.

According to university sources, Qimonda’s gift will be put toward the School of Engineering’s fundraising campaign, which supports professorships, scholarships as well as the $228 million Monroe Park Campus addition.
