SFPE New 2005 Publications Catalogue Available
April 22, 2005

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has released its Publications Catalog for 2005. It includes the latest engineering design guides, books, and CD-ROMS on the subject of fire protection engineering. Fire protection engineers use science and technology to make the world safer from fire.

Featured are two new engineering design guides:

  • Code Officials Guide to Performance Based Design provides information to code enforcement officials who may have to evaluate the adequacy of a performance-based fire protection design. It is intended for use by people with experience in building and fire codes, but who may not possess a detailed knowledge of fire protection engineering or performance-based design.
  • Fire Exposures to Structural Elements provides the information necessary to aid fire protection engineers in estimating the fire boundary conditions when designing the fire resistance of structures in a performance-based environment. Design methods, their limitations and examples of their application are provided.

“This catalog lists some of the most comprehensive and state-of-the-art publications available for design professionals interested in designing ways to protect people from fire,” said SFPE Executive Director Dave Evans. “Included is the SFPE Handbook
of Fire Protection Engineering, which is considered to be the essential resource for fire protection engineers.”

Organized in 1950, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers is the professional society for engineers involved in the field of fire protection engineering. The purposes of SFPE are to advance the science and practice of fire protection engineering, maintain a high ethical standing among its members and foster fire protection engineering education. SFPE’s worldwide members include engineers in private practice, in industry and in local, regional and national government. For more information or to obtain a copy of the catalog contact SFPE at www.sfpe.org.
