SHPE Region IV Leadership Development Conference
March 13, 2009

The University of Virginia (UVA) chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) will host the 21st annual Region IV Leadership Development Conference (RLDC) March 20th — 22nd, 2009. Two hundred-fifty undergraduate students, professionals, chapter advisors, corporate supporters and high school students from all over the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and Puerto Rico will gather at the conference.

This year’s Regional Leadership Development Conference will be jointly held at the Doubletree Hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia and UVA’s school of Engineering and Applied Science. The theme for the conference is “Leading by Example” – a motto that SHPE-UVA is eager to promote. The unique focus and purpose of the conference is to encourage and guide the chapters of SHPE region IV to create and sustain youth outreach programs to build a successful pipeline for Hispanic youth to start developing their technical talent at a very early age.

The conference will comprise of workshops, competitions, presentations and various networking opportunities aimed at giving attendees the tools and knowledge to devise solutions to common issues SHPE chapters face. The biggest event of the conference is a team project, whose purpose is to encourage students to develop creative ideas for outreach programs. A pre-college and a professional program have been implemented to give opportunities for leaders of all ages.

More information is available at the UVA RLDC ’09 website.
