Tencarva Acquires Engineering Equipment Co.
November 17, 2006

Tencarva Machinery Company, headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., recently announced the acquisition of Engineering Equipment Company (EECO), in Richmond, Va., effective November 1, 2006, according to Rod Lee, Tencarva president.

A company with about $8 million in sales revenue last year, EECO was founded over 45 years ago in 1961 as a sales organization in the industrial and municipal marketplace in Virginia. After the acquisition, Dave Mathers, former EECO secretary-treasurer and co-owner, will continue to head up the operations of the EECO Division of Tencarva as EECO division manager. John Mills, former EECO president and co-owner, will work three months as a consultant to Tencarva prior to retiring in early 2007.

The company’s other five employees, who are joining the Tencarva team, are Tom Wade, outside sales engineer; Willie Lilly, inside sales; Robin Dodson, sales support specialist; Lori O’Boyle, bookkeeper and Dale Chablis, receptionist/sales support specialist. Tencarva sales engineer and compressor specialist, Stuart Taylor, who is in Chesapeake, has become a part of the EECO team servicing the Tidewater territory.

Engineering Equipment Company is currently located at 711 Moorefield Park Drive, Suite L, in Richmond, and will remain there until a new facility, now under construction, is completed to house the combined EECO and Tencarva Richmond Branch Office at a new location.

After EECO was founded in 1961 by John Umlauf, Phillip Davis soon became a partner with Umlauf to help grow the company, targeting instrument, electrical and boiler house facilities in the industrial market base in Virginia. Mathers came to EECO in 1975 from the industrial marketplace sales, and Mills joined the sales team to help expand the company into the municipal market.

When Phillip Davis retired in 1983 and John Umlauf retired in 1988, Mills took over the presidency. Since 1988, Mills and Mathers have been co-owners of the company.

Tencarva Machinery Company recently was ranked 42nd of the “Fast 50” companies selected by The Business Journal Serving the Greater Triad Area in Greensboro, N.C., as well as 89th in the Business North Carolina’s ranking of the top 100 private companies in North Carolina. In addition, Tencarva was ranked 48th by the national publication, Industrial Distribution, in its 2006 “Big 50” list of top U.S. headquartered distributors, based on sales and earnings.

The Richmond Branch office is located at 2231 East Belt Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23224, (804) 231-6266. For additional details on Tencarva, contact Rod Lee, president, at (336) 665-1435. For information on Tencarva, visit www.tencarva.com.
