Two Dewberry Projects Honored
July 6, 2007

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) recently held their annual Engineering Excellence Awards gala. The event, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC, honored the most prestigious projects in the nation, recognizing “a high degree of achievement, value, and ingenuity.”

Two Dewberry projects were honored as National Finalists at the gala. Each of the acknowledged projects received individual awards earlier in ACEC’s regional competition; they were then entered into the national competition.

For its innovative geographic information system (GIS) engineering and mapping system, GeoFIRM, Dewberry was chosen to receive the Grand Award by the ACEC of Metropolitan Washington. Dewberry currently uses GeoFIRM to automate engineering and digital floodmap production tasks. In 2005-2006, Dewberry produced digital mapping which helped FEMA establish the flood hazard risk for almost 40 million people or 13% of the entire United States.

For its design of the Knoll Water Pumping Station in the Township of Parsippany -Troy Hills, New Jersey, Dewberry received an Honor Award from the ACEC of New Jersey. Dewberry’s design provided the township with innovative long term solutions to its water-shortage issues: construct a pumping station that ties into the Jersey City reservoir to immediately pump into the Parsippany system; and use the new connection for Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) to “bank” water for the future.
