UPS Donates $35K for ASSE Scholarships
December 18, 2009

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently received a $35,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The donation will fund six $5,250 scholarships along with an opportunity for recipients to attend ASSE’s annual Professional Development Conference and Exposition, SAFETY 2010, to be held June 13th – 16th, 2010, in Baltimore, MD.

Four of the six scholarships, the David Iden Memorial Safety Scholarships, are awarded to undergraduate junior- or senior-year students working toward a degree in safety, health and the environment (SH&E). Two of the six scholarships include the UPS diversity scholarships, which are awarded to junior- or senior-year students from a minority ethnic background pursuing an undergraduate degree in SH&E.

Scholarship applicants must be full-time students pursuing a B.S. in occupational safety and health or a related field. Applicants must be student members of ASSE, have a GPA of 3.0 in a 4.0 system, be in good academic standing and be recommended by a safety faculty member. Students are invited to apply annually for scholarships through the ASSE Foundation from September through December 1st.
