Virginia Factories Release Fewer Toxic Chemicals

According to a recent report from the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Virginia’s power plants, factories and other industries had fewer toxic-chemical releases during 2009. The most current data available shows an 8.3 percent drop during 2009 compared to 2008. While the releases are legal, DEQ noted that 47.5 million pounds of chemicals were either released into the air or buried in the ground.
