WMATA Morgan Boulevard Station Wins Award
January 9, 2006

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Morgan Boulevard Metrorail Station in Landover, MD, designed by architect STV Incorporated as part of HSMM/STV Largo, A Joint Venture, was recently presented an Honor Award, the highest recognition bestowed in the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects’ 2005 Design Awards.

The Morgan Boulevard Metrorail Station is part of WMATA’s Blue Line Extension to Largo Town Center, a design-build contract with Clark-Kiewit Largo, a joint venture of Clark Construction Group, Inc., of Bethesda, MD, and Kiewit Construction Company of Omaha, NE. HSMM/STV Largo, Clark-Kiewit’s architectural and engineering subcontractor, is the joint venture of Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Inc., (HSMM) Roanoke, VA, and STV Incorporated, Vienna, VA.

Built using the design-build delivery method, Morgan Boulevard Metrorail Station is a bold departure from the original metro system design and presents a clean, futuristic look that will serve as a model for WMATA as it moves forward in the 21st century.

The annual Virginia Society AIA Design Awards were created to recognize outstanding design by Virginia architects.
