The City of Charlottesville, Va. is seeking qualified applicants for an open position as a Network Engineer within the city’s information technology department. The Network Engineer is responsible for the operation of the City’s LAN/WAN under the supervision of the Senior Network Engineer of the IT Operations Manager. The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in computer Science or MIS. Certifications such as CCNA and CCNP are preferred. Successful candidate must have 2+ years of experience installing, configuring, monitoring, optimizing and maintaining local and wide-area networks. Extensive hands-on experience using Cisco networking systems is highly preferred. Hands-on experience with Windows and Unix server operating systems is a plus. A B.S. degree in Computer Science or MIS from an accredited college can substitute for one year of the required experience.
