Power Systems Distribution Manager
 

The University of Virginia is pleased to invite applications for a Power Systems Distribution Manager. This critical position will support the Department of Energy & Utilities’ organizational objective to provide consistent, cost effective, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound high voltage electrical distribution systems and equipment to support the University facilities. The Power Systems Distribution Manager will manage the University’s electrical distribution division and infrastructure systems and ensure equipment is maintained and performance is optimized for efficiency and capacity. This position is responsible for preventive, predictive and proactive maintenance programs that are comprehensive and well organized. The Power Systems Distribution Manager will also be responsible for overseeing all design document reviews, planning and inspection of renovation and/or new construction projects on University grounds as it relates to high voltage electrical distribution systems.

In addition to strong technical power engineering knowledge, the successful candidate will be a recognized leader who is highly proficient in developing strategies, setting goals, allocating resources and providing innovative solutions to complex issues. He/she will possess strong leadership characteristics specifically related to communication, mentoring, and developing strong cohesive and effective teams.

Qualifications: – A high school degree or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; – An electrical Journeyman’s license in lieu of an engineering degree is required; a Professional Engineering license is preferred; – Extensive knowledge of installation, repair, maintenance and operations of high voltage systems is required; – Significant experience reviewing design documents, applying technical knowledge and directing work from plans and specifications required; – Demonstrated advance experience in leadership roles as well as strong verbal and written communication skills required; – A strong understanding of the complex technical workings of power distribution systems, familiarity with NFPA, NEC and the control theory of load reduction as well as SCADA knowledge and system modeling ability preferred; – Knowledge of relevant federal and local laws, regulations and codes preferred.
