The City of Buena Vista is accepting applications for the following position: *Water Quality Operator B
SALARY: DOQ/DOE (+) benefits. The City of Buena Vista operates several water wells and associated booster pumps, PRVs, and storage tanks. In addition, the City owns and operates a 2.25mgd wastewater treatment plant and associated sewage lift stations. The City is in the process of constructing a membrane filter plant at one of the well facilities. All non-supervisory operator positions work rotating shifts (shifts are currently 6:30 am – 2:30 pm, 10:30 am – 6:30 pm, and/or 6:30 am – 6:30 pm). This position will perform tasks of both water and wastewater, but initially will be working primarily as the City’s water operator. Ultimately this individual will perform both water and wastewater duties and be instrumental in operation of the newly construction filtration plant to be completed in 2014. Works under the immediate supervision of Water Quality Operations Supervisor. Responsibilities include operating and monitoring treatment equipment, performing house-cleaning tasks, collecting samples for lab analysis, performing tests on samples, collecting and recording data, and troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment. Must have a mechanical aptitude and willingness to readily acquire the knowledge and skills required for promotion in wastewater and water. Knowledge of wastewater and water operations and regulations essential and additional knowledge of micro-filtration treatment plant operations preferred. Must be able to utilize Excel software and retrieve and enter computer data and to perform related process control tasks safely and effectively. Requires a high school degree or GED, preferably an Associates degree. Must have a Va. Class III Water license, a Va. driver’s license and cell or home phone and successfully complete City’s drug testing program and driving record review.
