The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has submitted comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) second draft of the ENERGY STAR Version 4.0 Specification for commercial refrigerators and freezers. The EPA’s main objective is to lower maximum daily energy consumption performance criteria levels and align definitions with DOE’s final rule for commercial refrigeration equipment. AHRI and its members have challenged these definitions in court and are awaiting a decision. AHRI’s comments request that the EPA reconsider the specification depending on the court’s decision. More information, including the first draft, comments received, and data plots associated with both draft specifications, is included on the EPA’s website.
