ASCE Calls For Comment on New Masonry Standard

June 08, 2004

The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is calling for public comment on the proposed revisions to the 2002 editions of its Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures and Specifications for Masonry Structures. The standards and specifications provide minimum requirements for the design and construction of masonry structures. Both documents are referenced extensively in the model building codes of the United States. The public comment period for the proposed revisions is from June 15 to July 29, 2004.

The public ballot is one of the final stages of the consensus standards development process. The Masonry Standards Joint Committee will review and address all comments submitted through the public ballot. The public comment period for these revisions is being held concurrently by all three sponsoring organizations SEI/ASCE, American Concrete Institute (ACI), and
The Masonry Society (TMS).

To participate in the SEI/ASCE public comment process, please visit www.seinstitute.org. From the homepage, click on the “Publications” heading and then click on “Standards Balloting” in the pop-up menu. Please follow the instructions to register and submit your public comment. For questions related to the public comment period, please contact Jim Rossberg, director of SEI, at 703-295-6196 or via email at mailto:jrossberg@asce.org.
