ASCE Calls for Comment on New Standard

June 04, 2004

The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of the American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is calling for public comment on a new standard titled Seismic Design Criteria for Structures, System, and Components in Nuclear Facilities. A graded approach is used in developing the seismic design criteria presented in this Standard. The intent is to control the design process such that the performance of the structure, system and components related to safety and environmental protection is acceptable.

ASCE will conduct a ballot period on the proposed revisions from June 15 to July 29, 2004. The public ballot is one of the final stages of the consensus standards development process. The Standards Committee will review and address all comments submitted through the public ballot.

To participate in the SEI/ASCE public comment process, please visit www.seinstitute.org. From the homepage, click on the “Publications” heading and then click on “Standards Balloting” in the pop-up menu. Please follow the instructions to register and submit your public comment. For questions related to the public comment period, please contact Jim Rossberg, director of SEI, at 703-295-6196 or via email at .
