Engineers Honored For Community Service

June 12, 2006

Chesterfield County Economic Development awarded Austin Brockenbrough & Associates, L.L.P. (AB&A) the 2006 First Choice Business Special Recognition Award for Community Service. AB&A Engineers and Surveyors were recognized for a long list of community service including regular Blood Donations, annual Christmas Mother donations, Adopt A Highway work, mentoring students at Harrowgate Elementary and students from the L.C. Bird Pre-Engineering Specialty Center, and providing summer internships for college students. All this from a 37-person company that also provides leadership in many local professional associations such as Chester Kiwanis, Chester YMCA Board of Management, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia and the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers. Just last year employees sent over $5,000 in donations to Hurricane Katrina relief funds. Partner Jerry Augst, PE, “We’re lucky to have such technically competent employees who are excited about giving back to the community and profession.”

Last year, as part of AB&A’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the company donated services to Chesterfield County for development of the new Government Center Trail. “That was such an enjoyable experience that we decided to offer a pro-bono project to others on an annual basis.” says Partner, Carrie Langelotti, PE. “Doing this free service and supporting employees’ desires to do good works outside of the company seems to bring out the best in everyone.”
