The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently announced it will conduct a public comment period from June 15, 2012 through July 30, 2012 on ASCE/SEI 41-13 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings. This standard was developed by the ASCE/SEI Seismic Rehabilitation Standards Committee.
The ASCE/SEI Seismic Rehabilitation Standards Committee has just completed a two and half year effort to update and combine ASCE 31-03 and ASCE 41-06. Over 100 practicing engineers, code officials, and academics participated in the update. The new standard ASCE/SEI 41-13 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings represents a significant advancement in available knowledge for those who find themselves confronted with the challenge of assessing or improving the earthquake resilience of an existing building.
To participate in the public comment period, contact Lee Kusek, ASCE Codes & Standards Administrator at or 703-295-6176. For more information on this standard or ASCE’s standards program, please contact Jim Jennings at or 703-295-6406.
