Record Value In Scholarships To-Date Awarded
September 22, 2016

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) awarded more than $750,000 in scholarships this year; a nearly $100,000 increase from the 2015 scholarship program. The non-profit organization, which has been deemed a notable source of scholarships to women by John Oliver, comedian and host of HBO’s Late Night Tonight with John Oliver, has been providing scholarship opportunities for women in engineering and technology more than 65 years.

This year, 231 applicants received scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $14,500 each, out of a pool of 3,900 viable candidates. Scholarship donations for SWE’s program have been steadily climbing over the past five years, and this year is the highest amount the Society has ever awarded.

“Our scholarship program is one of the reasons we are able to remain a solid resource to our future women engineers,” said Karen Horting, CEO and executive director of SWE. “We could not have such a successful program without our corporate and foundation partners and generous individuals who support our scholarships, and our hope is to continue to grow the program and provide financial resources to those studying for a career in engineering and technology.

SWE scholarships are available to women pursuing ABET-accredited bachelor or graduate student programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science.
