Spectrum Design Wins Award
June 21, 2007

Spectrum Design was recently recognized by the Blue Ridge chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Downtown Roanoke Inc. for its renovations of the General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion and three downtown Roanoke projects–State & City Building, Campbell Garage Lofts and Candy Factory Lofts.

The architecture and engineering firm received a Special Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation from AIA Blue Ridge for its work on the General Francis Marion Hotel at the organization’s Design Awards banquet on May 24 at the Jefferson Center. The Design Awards recognize excellence in architectural design by firms and individuals, and entries were judged by AIA members in Alexandria.

Spectrum Design’s nearly two-year, $4 million project updated the hotel’s heating, cooling and electrical systems and upgraded its amenities, such as wireless Internet and handicap-accessibility, while retaining its 1920s ambience.
