URS Providing Program Management

URS Corporation has been selected by the Virginia Department of General Services to provide program management services for the renovation and expansion of the historic Virginia State Capitol building.

URS is responsible for design management and construction management for the $80 million project. The project includes a complete interior and exterior renovation and construction of an underground extension to the south of the existing building. the extension will contain a visitors center, exhibition space, legislative work space, and improved media facilities.

Site work for the extension and exterior began in September 2004. Renovations to the capitol interior will begin in May 2005 after the building is vacated. The project is scheduled for completion in 2007 for the 400th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Jamestown settlement.
