VSP Building Receives USGBC LEED Platinum Certification
September 25, 2008

VSP Vision Care announced today that its national headquarters building has been LEED® Platinum certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating Systemâ„¢ is the USGBC’s rating system for designing, constructing, and operating the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and high performing buildings. VSP is only the 11th building in the U.S. to receive this certification based on the LEED-EB Rating System.

In 2006, VSP assembled a team, led by a dedicated group of VSP facilities personnel and Facility Engineering Associates (FEA), VSP’s Sustainability Consultant, to see how one company could make a difference. The team goals were to achieve operational excellence at the facility by improving three key areas:

1. Energy – 20% reduction from current use levels

2. Water – 50% reduction from current use level

3. Waste Stream – 95% diversion rate

Incentives for LEED are available at the state and local level and LEED has also been adopted nationwide by federal agencies, state, and local governments, and interested private companies. For more information, visit
