To provide support to the growing Hurricane Katrina recovery effort, Dewberry’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronald L. Ewing, P.E., RLS, has announced that Dewberry will establish an office in Baton Rouge, LA. Chris S. Davis has been tapped to set up and direct office operations, as well as coordinate Dewberry’s local staff supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in its response to Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Davis currently directs marketing and sales initiatives for Dewberry’s entire enterprise, including federal, state, and local government and commercial new business development. He will be transitioning his responsibilities to Jeanette Kramer who will assume the role of Corporate Director of Marketing and Sales. Prior to joining Dewberry in 2002, Mr. Davis served as a consultant on a number of U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Defense programs of national significance.
Ms. Kramer joined Dewberry in 2004 as Manager of Corporate Marketing Services. Prior to joining Dewberry, she managed the marketing department for a top-five engineering and construction company’s Arlington office and directed corporate marketing for a nationally-recognized design firm.
Ashley T. Barker and Matthew W. Hastings have joined Dewberry’s Danville office. Ms. Barker is a 2005 graduate of the University of Virginia and earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. She has joined the office’s land development group and is providing site design for a number of commercial development properties. Mr. Hastings received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 2005 from Virginia Tech and is a registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT). He provides site design in support of a number of the office’s engineering projects and engineering services for the Regional Backbone Initiative’s telecommunication infrastructure along Southside Virginia.

McKinney and Company is pleased to make the following announcements regarding their staff.
Roy W. Sebring, P.E. has been promoted to Electrical Department Head. He recently graduated from the William and Mary MBA program and received the honor of being one of nine MBA students inducted into the College of William and Mary Beta Gamma Sigma Society, the highest recognition a business student can receive in an undergraduate or masters program.
J. Donald Guthrie, AIA, LEED™, has recently joined the firm as a project architect. He had been with Moseley Architects as a project manager and project architect for federal, state and local government clients.
Kara Ewing has joined McKinney and Company as a Designer in the Electrical Engineering Department. A 2004 graduate from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, she was previously a project engineer at Prestige Construction Group.
Claiborne F. Blackley, III, P.E. has joined McKinney and Company as a Senior Civil Engineer. Mr. Blackley brings over 27 years of civil engineering and project management experience and was previously with URS Corporation.
Tony Oates, ASLA is a Senior Landscape Architect in the Land Planning Department. He has over ten years experience in landscape design for private and public clients throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Jesson E. Zafar has joined the firm as a Marketing Document Specialist. He is a recent graduate of James Madison University with a B.A. degree in Technical & Scientific Communication.
Matthew Yakim, E.I.T., has joined the firm as an entry-level structural engineer in the Williamsburg office. He is a recent graduate from Virginia Tech with a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering focusing in structures. His most recent work experience was with Ehlert/Bryan, Inc.
Lisa McAdam has joined the staff as a Senior Civil Engineer and brings over 21 years experience as a consulting civil engineer serving clients in municipal, state and federal government, departments of corrections, municipal planning organizations and private industry.

The Buildings Division of Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Inc. (HSMM), announces the promotions of Sarah Glenn, P.E., LEEDâ„¢ AP; Bob Merrill, P.E., LEEDâ„¢ AP, CPD; Keith Sarver, P.E.; David Sellars, P.E., and Darcy McGrath, AIA, to Registered Associate.
Ms. Glenn is a structural engineer in HSMM’s Buildings Division Roanoke office. She has experience in the design of concrete, steel, and wood structures for military, federal, and local government facilities. Ms. Glenn, a LEEDâ„¢ Accredited Professional, holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Mr. Merrill, is a project manager for HSMM Building’s Division in Roanoke. He has nineteen years experience covering all aspects of project management as well as HVAC and plumbing design. He received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Mr. Sarver is an electrical engineer in the firm’s Roanoke office Buildings Division. He joined HSMM in 1998 and is experienced in the design of power, lighting, and communications systems for industrial and institutional facilities, office buildings, healthcare facilities, and museums. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and his MBA from Averett University.
Mr. Sellars, is the Assistant Structural Department Head for HSMM’s Roanoke office Buildings Division. He has experience with new and renovated facilities for municipal, industrial, institutional, and military use. These facilities include civic centers, hospitals, schools, wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, and water systems. He received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia.
Ms. McGrath is a registered architect in HSMM’s Roanoke office Buildings Division Architectural Department. She has 12 years of professional experience working from schematic design through construction documents and project completion on a variety of projects. Ms. McGrath received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA.
HSMM, has also announced the promotion of Ed Colonna, P.E., CEM, an HSMM Vice President, to Regional Market Director for the firm’s Roanoke Buildings Division. In this position, Mr. Colonna is responsible for developing and managing clients and projects, primarily within the Office and Interiors and Industry and Technology Market Segments. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
HSMM, has also announced the addition of Aaron P. Freid, E.I.T. to the professional staff in the firm’s Virginia Beach office. Mr. Freid, a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN, with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, accepted a position with the firm as a mechanical engineer.

Timmons Group, headquartered in Richmond, VA, recently announced that Blake Hall, LA, has passed the Virginia Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE). Mr. Hall joined the firm immediately after graduating from Virginia Tech, with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree. A LEEDâ„¢ Accredited Professional with experience in sustainable design, Mr. Hall provides landscape architectural services for Timmons Group’s Site Development sector.
Timmons Group is pleased to announce several staff promotions within its Site Development engineering sector:
Sam Saunders, P.E., has been appointed to the senior position of Sector Leader, overseeing the Healthcare practice at Timmons Group. Mr. Saunders has 26 years engineering design experience, 12 of them with Timmons Group. He started at Timmons Group in Site Development’s Commercial practice and launched the Healthcare group two years ago. Mr. Saunders received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute and a Master of Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Scott Brown, P.E., has been promoted to Group Leader of the Timmons Group Healthcare practice. Mr. Brown, a Professional Engineer licensed in Virginia, has 10 years of professional services experience and holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University.
Chris Sibold, P.E., promoted to Project Manager, has seven years of engineering design experience and has been with the Healthcare practice at Timmons Group since its inception. Mr. Sibold earned a B.A. degree in Economics and Mathematics from Hampden-Sydney College and a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in Virginia.
Shannon Browning was recently made Project Manager for the Parks & Sports/Education practice within the Site Development sector. Mr. Browning has been with Timmons Group for over six years, with his focus primarily having been school projects. He has a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University.
David Williams has been promoted to Project Engineer II, in support of the Commercial practice within Site Development. Mr. Williams bring 33 years of professional experience to the team, 18 of which have been with Timmons Group. He has an A.S. degree in Civil Engineering Technology from J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College.

Facility Engineering Associates, P.C. (FEA) recently due to her outstanding performance and professional commitment to the facilities industry and FEA. Ms. Mitnick joined FEA in 2002 bringing with her over 17 years of structural engineering experience. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Prior to joining FEA, Ms. Mitnick worked at LAW Engineering and Environmental Services and Choice Restoration Services.
Mayra D. Portalatin, E.I.T. has accepted a position with FEA as Project Engineer in the Condition Assessment, Facility Management, and Environmental Services group in Fairfax, VA. Ms. Portalatin received her B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan, and joins FEA from SCA Environmental, Inc., located in Los Angeles, CA. Ms. Portalatin brings over 7 years experience as a project manager, team leader, and environmental scientist to the firm. She is a member of the American Council of Indoor Air Quality and is pursuing her Professional Engineer registration.
Gordon Dowrey has accepted a position with FEA as Senior Project Manager in the Facility Management Consulting Services Group at its new Indianapolis, IN office. Mr. Dowrey, with over 15 years experience in the facility management field, joins FEA from CB Richard Ellis. Mr. Dowrey’s areas of experience include management of tenant improvement construction, building systems maintenance management, and implementation of Preventative and Corrective Maintenance programs and software. At FEA, he will primarily focus on project management of condition assessments, facility evaluations and audits, facility management consulting, and repair and restoration projects.

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is pleased to announce that John W. Herzke, P.E. has joined JMT as Vice President and the Office Manager for their new Virginia Beach, VA, office. Mr. Herzke, the former City Engineer for Virginia Beach, has over 34 years of professional engineering experience in transportation, traffic engineering, buildings, storm water, and a variety of municipal types of infrastructure projects. He will be responsible for providing JMT’s full range of planning, engineering and construction management capabilities to their clients in the Tidewater area and municipal clients throughout Virginia. Mr. Herzke is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia. He holds a B.S. degree in Engineering from Old Dominion University.

Richard A. Costello, P.E., President of AES Consulting Engineers, was named 2006 Business Person of the Year by the Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting.

Draper Aden Associates is pleased to announce Harry R. Ghaffari, P.E. as Head of Structural Engineering Services in the Firm’s Blacksburg office. Mr. Ghaffari will also provide additional support to Draper Aden Associates’ Structural Engineering Services in Richmond. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, and in the District of Columbia. He received his M.B.A. from Penn State University, his M.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural) from the University of Illinois, and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of London, England. Mr. Ghaffari has 25 years experience in structural analysis and design, construction, quality control, value engineering, renovation, and restoration for a wide variety of building types including educational, multi-unit residential, retail, government offices and institutional.

Resource International Ltd., a Professional Consulting Firm specializing in engineering, environmental, planning and land surveying services located in Ashland, VA, has announced the following promotions and additions to their professional staff.
Tom Tran, E.I.T. has joined the Land Development Department as a Project Engineer I. He graduated from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and has over 5 years experience. In his new position, Mr. Tran will concentrate on stormwater management and utility design.
Eric Johnson has also joined the staff in the firm’s Land Development Department staff as a CADD Technician.
Kristopher Peacock has joined the staff in the Land Development Department as a Staff Engineer. Mr. Peacock is a recent graduate of Michigan State University.
Angela Schreffler has joined the Environmental Department as a Staff Environmental Scientist. She holds a graduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and is currently a Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT).
Ted Kraska, P.W.S., has been promoted from Project Scientist III to Project Scientist II as a result of his hard work, dedication, and expanding project management abilities and growing wetland experience.
Ken Van Riper with Commonwealth Architects has recently earned his Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEEDâ„¢) accreditation.

The Society of Women Engineers – Richmond Section has recently announced the election of officers for 2005-2006. The new officers are: President, Rosemary Green with Haley Green Group; Vice President, Jeanne Neureuter with the Virginia Department of Health; Treasurer, Hafsah Navarro with the Virginia Department of Transportation; Secretary, Alice Pool with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation; and Information Officer; Nicole Blankenbeckler with DuPont Corp.

T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) has announced that Gary S. Johnson has joined the firm as Associate Vice President. Mr. Johnson will lead the newly opened Richmond, VA, office and will be responsible for business development and project management in the mid-Atlantic region. Mr. Johnson began his career as a structural engineer on major interchanges, and has expanded his experience with structures by specializing in the assessment and emergency rehabilitation of bridges. A licensed P.E. in 7 states, he holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a Concentration in Structures from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Gregory C. Ellen has been named an associate at Dunbar, Milby, Williams, Pittman & Vaughan and Donna E. Adams is a professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Ronald A. Ratliff, P.E., has been named a Vice President and District Director of Burgess & Niple’s Virginia Beach , VA, office. In this position, he is responsible for managing contractual, marketing, operational, and project-related activities for the firm in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area. He succeeds Ronald S. Bray, Vice President, who will retire this December. Mr. Ratliff has more than 30 years experience in planning, design engineering, and project management for public and private clients. He received his B.S. degree from Franklin University.

Alsco Metal Corp. has recently announced that William W. Wade is now a manufacturing/electrical engineer with the firm.

JD Dowling has joined the staff at 3north as an intern architect. He had been with Eric Owen Moss Architects in Los Angeles.

Moseley Architects has announced that John W. Hasten is now a vice president with the firm.
